| The countries of the world, beginning with our, are continually
developing ona base of Information Science Technologies. Information
Science Technology is being widely used, not only in the fields of
production and economics, but also having penetrated into our daily
lives. We can even say that without Information Science Technology,
society would not be able to function. Therefore, approaches from
Information Science Technology related to various fields and topics has
been ephasized, and society has been strongly seeking the cultivation of
specialists that can do so. |

To meet these sorts of societal demands, we at Ritsumeikan University, have expanded Information Science Technology and opened a "College of Information Science and Engineering" in 2004. In the College
of Information Science and Engineering we have established five
departments, and beginning with computer hardware and software, and
conduct education and research from the fundamental technologies that
support an information society, such as the building block systems of
networks and information systems, to applied technologies such as media
technology, human technology, and bio technology with the aim of
producing high level and diverse specialists that society demands.

The College of Information Science and Engineering does not just
specailize in high level technical knowledge of information science
technologyes, but also makes it a point to cultivate practical technical
knowledge by "making things" which possess actual utility. So that end,
have organized a curricilum composed of appealling courses such as
development courses to heighten creative ability, experimental practice
courses, and thesis research, and have established career advancement
courses such as a system of programs and internships offered in
cooperation with industry.

| The educational philosophy of The College of Information Science and
Engineering is to, through education and research into diverse fields
with a foundation of information science, take initiatve and global
common sense, and train human resources than can revolutionarily solve
societies problems. With this educational philosophy, we aim to promote
research of international standards, realize an information society
based on harmony between man and nature, in cooperation with society,
and contribute to the well-being of humanity.
