In the 21st century, applicable science fields have rapidly expanded alongside the increasingly progressive and diversified education and technology associated with information and computing systems.
Furthermore, we have established a strong ambition to focus tactically on issues surrounding fields in IT (such as high-priority national policy, science and technology, etc.) to meet the expectations of our university to help boost the economy and make Japan more competitive in global markets.
To date, Ritsumeikan University's College of Science and Engineering has been a focal point for striving to solve, through education and research, the scientific and technological challenges of the 21st century. Specifically, the Department of Computer Science is taking an active approach to this century’s key issues concerning information technology, and is making its contribution to society by generating a wealth of young, educated workers.
In order to continue to evolve and further our achievements in education and research as well as turn out more constructive members of society, we have maintained our strong ties with the College of Science and Engineering in establishing a new college that spans both science and engineering while adding a newly recognized topic:information science. In producing our College of Information Science and Engineering, we have added to this a new and comprehensive framework of education and research.
