PREFACE
Preface
The Ritsumeikan University Faculty of Law, with the cooperation of the Kinki Federation of Bar Associations, the Kyoto Bar Association, and the Osaka Bar Association, promoted the Japan Seminar on Consumer Affairs, which took place at Ritsumeikan University from August 3, 1995 to August 5, 1995. This seminar, while shedding light on consumer problems and the current state of the law in countries around the world, also attempted to suggest the way
legislation, administration, and law shoud be in the future, from the viewpoint of an international rise in standards. Until this conference, such a major meeting with the above goals in mind had never taken place in Japan. Having said that, the Ritsumeikan Law Review has collected papers which were originally presented at the Seminar, and I believe this collection will be of substantial value to researchers both in Japan and worldwide.
Finally, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all those participants who submitted papers for publication in this journal.

Yasunari HISAOKA Chairman, the Ritsumeikan University Law Association
