I would like to take the opportunity to welcome all of you to the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS). We are a postgraduate school of policy-oriented social science whose diverse activities include teaching, interdisciplinary research and advisory work. Founded by the universities of the Netherlands in 1952, the Institute is one of the world’s leading centres of higher education and research in this field. All degrees are recognised internationally and by Dutch legislation on higher education.
ISS is a University Institute of Erasmus University Rotterdam, but is based in The Hague. Located right in the centre of the ‘City of Justice, Peace and Security’, the Institute is home to a challenging programme in the broad field best described as addressing questions of ‘Equity and Distribution in a Globalising World’.
We offer a 4-year Doctoral Programme, a 15.5-month Master Degree programme in ‘Development Studies’, a range of short courses and tailor-made training packages which usually take between 3-10.5 weeks to complete.
We are proud to offer a Double Master's Degree Program with Ritsumeikan University, which I am sure you will find interesting and rewarding.
The ISS is a truly international institute. In 2010, our students came
from some 60 different countries in Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe,
USA and Canada. Additionally, about two-third of our teaching staff at
ISS is of non-Dutch nationality.
We guarantee our students a vivid and cosmopolitan learning environment not only on the ISS premises, but also during their free time in Holland’s third-largest city of 500,000 inhabitants. This relatively small size coupled with all Hague-based facilities for being the seat of our government makes The Hague a densely packed and worthwhile experience for the ambitious and adventurous international student.
