Lancaster University first opened its doors to 330 students in 1964, when it was granted its Royal Charter. Since then it has expanded both in size and reputation. There are now over 10,000 students studying in departments that are recognised nationally and internationally for their quality teaching and research. Approximately 20% of the students at Lancaster come from outside the UK and the presence of so many international students is an important feature of the University, adding to the diversity of experience for all students and staff. Over 100 countries are represented on campus with the largest groups of international students coming from Greece, the USA, India, China, Spain, Malaysia, Japan, Germany and Cyprus. Lancaster University is a campus university, located about 3 miles south of the historic city of Lancaster. The campus is set in 250 acres of parkland and academic departments, colleges, halls of residence, library, computer facilities, banks, shops and sporting facilities are all situated on campus making life cheaper, safer and easier than in many other places.
