ロンドン郊外のサリー州に位置するロンドン大学ロイヤルハロウェイ校（RHUL）は、ロンドン大学に属するカレッジの一つで生物化学、生物学、科学、演劇、舞台芸術、経済学、英語、物理学、心理学、社会政策、社会科学などの学部を持つ国立総合大学です。19世紀の古城が校舎の一部として使われるなど、1886年創立の長い歴史を感じさせる緑豊かな広大なキャンパスには約8,000人の学生が学び、うち1,000人余りが130を超える国々からの留学生です（2009年9月現在）。英国内はもとより、海外からの評価も高く、多くの研究分野で国内最高の評価を与えられています。数多くあるロンドン大学のカレッジの中でも、最新設備が備わった学習、研究環境の良さで、抜きん出ていると言われており、ロンドン中心部までおよそ1時間という立地条件で、ロンドンという世界有数の大都会が持つ優れた特質を大いに享受しながら、一方で都心の喧騒から離れ学業に専念することのできる環境にあると言えます。

DMDPの1年は何かと忙しく、あっという間に過ぎましたが、とても充実した1年を過ごすことができました。Royal Hollowayには、the EU, Democracy, Governance, International Relations, Globalizationを専門とする先生方がいらっしゃり、授業と修士論文の指導を熱心にしてくださいました。日本の大学よりもはるかに課題も多く、レベルも高いものを要求されるので、常にターム期間中は期限に追われていましたが、その分クラスメイトと支えあい、たくさんのことを学ぶことができました。キャンパスは国際色豊かで、勉強以外の面においても、さまざまな人と出会うことができ、楽しく充実した毎日でした。キャンパスは自然豊かな郊外にありますが、ロンドンも近く、また他のヨーロッパ諸国に旅行するにも便利な場所で、様々な経験をすることができる理想的な場所でした。1年間の留学はすぐに過ぎましたが、Royal Hollowayで学んだことは大変多く、帰国後、立命館でもそれらの経験を生かして、よりよい研究ができたと思います。DMDPはとても良い刺激・経験になるので、たくさんの方に参加をお勧めしたいと思います。

It is a privilege to have the opportunity to communicate directly with you. Royal Holloway, University of London and Ritsumeikan University have over recent years developed a strong relationship. One of the most visible illustrations of this is the fact that Royal Holloway students have since 2006 had the opportunity to study at Ritsumeikan, and likewise Royal Holloway has been fortunate to welcome students from Ritsumeikan to our campus.

Our two universities have much in common. Just as the main Ritsumeikan campus is situated outside Kyoto, so Royal Holloway, although part of the University of London since 1901, is situated outside central London. Both institutions have excellent academic reputations and are internationally known for the quality of their teaching and research. The universities are strongly committed to internationalization; at Royal Holloway over 30% of our students come from outside the United Kingdom. If you were to come to Royal Holloway you would have the opportunity to meet and study alongside students from around the world.

Given that we have a long tradition of welcoming international students to our campus we have developed outstanding student support services. These services range from providing help and advice with obtaining a visa to the UK, to providing academic and English language support to international students whilst they are on their degree programmes. In addition, we offer all of our international students on-campus accommodation, usually in single study-bedrooms with en-suite facilities.
