Briefings on the entrance examination

LEIS holds explanatory meetings in Kyoto, Shiga, Osaka, and Tokyo every spring and autumn for those interested in entering the school. Please visit our website for information on schedules and venues of these events.

Information is also available on Ritsumeikan University's Graduate School website.

In addition, briefings on matters relating to the admissions process are also given at open lectures, and also via Skype.

Various means of entrance


General entrance examination


Admission is by a screening of submitted documents, an interview and a written examination.

General entrance examination for mature students


This is an option for people who have two or more years of work experience at the time of entrance, and who can comply with regulatory requirements. For more information on application eligibility, please refer to the guide to examinations.

Self-recommended examination for mature students


This is an option for people who are working as a full-time or part-time teachers at the time of application. For more information on application eligibility, please refer to the guide to examinations.

Entrance examination for mature students from university-affiliated organizations


This is an option for people who have been working for more than one year as teachers or members of staff of affiliated organizations. For more information on application eligibility, please refer to the guide to examinations.

Entrance examination for overseas students

Entrance examination for Ritsumeikan students who are taking advantage of its year-skipping (the so-called tobi-kyu) system


Students interested in this option should display a strong desire to enter LEIS and it is expected they will not apply for graduate study elsewhere. Applicants will be selected through a screening of submitted documents and an interview.

Special acceptance examination for students from Asia Pacific University


Students interested in this option should display a strong desire to enter LEIS and it is expected they will not apply for graduate study elsewhere. For students planning to graduate from APU and continue to LEIS, there is a screening of submitted documents and an interview. For those who intend to enroll without first graduating from APU, there is a screening of submitted documents, an interview and a written examination.

Entrance examination for students planning to skip the final year of undergraduate study


Students interested in this option should display a strong desire to enter LEIS and it is expected they will not apply for graduate study elsewhere. For more information on application eligibility, please refer to the examination guide.

Self-recommended examination for students from overseas universities


A new entrance examination (for admission in September) for graduates of overseas universities, with no stipulation on nationality. For more information on application eligibility, please refer to the examination guide.

  • Entrance examination for students continuing their graduate studies from within Ritsumeikan University (July, September and February)
  • Special acceptance examination for students from Asia Pacific University (September and February).
  • Entrance examination for students who are taking advantage of its year-skipping program (in February only)
