Joint TESL Certificate Program at UBC
Joint TESL Certificate Program at one of the most prestigious research-oriented universities in Canada.
This is a two-year program for research-minded LEIS graduate students to obtain 15 UBC credits(LEIS 16 credits) and to be granted a certificate on successful completion for a total 192 hours of instruction and practice.
Kyoto Kinugasa Campus Students take a 6-credit course in Applied Linguistics for Teachers (LLED489) in the first year at UBC and in the second year take a 6-credit course in TESL Methodology (LLED 478, Introduction to Teaching English as a Second Language), and a 3-credit course of TESL practicum (LLED 399, Practicum in Teaching English as a Second Language) at LEIS, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto.
Practicum at Uji High School in Kyoto, Japan
LLED 478C/96A: Introduction to Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language (6 credits) & LLED 399/96A (3 credits). Practica will be at Ritsumeikan Uji Junior and Senior High School. Accommodation for UBC students will be at a 'weekly mansion' (short-term rental) near the Ritsumeikan campus.
