A lawyer is a profession to be involved with people deeply. When you become a lawyer, your experiences that you think hard by yourselves, practice and sometimes fail will benefit you. Even apprenticeship of legal trainees gives you few opportunities to be involved with a person deeply or to think over a case deeply. In most cases it results in superficial observation of the case. Therefore, it is important to have an opportunity to think over a client or a case through the assistance of the practitioner from the early stage of legal education. It is Legal Clinic, an opportunity that you have never experienced in the conventional apprenticeship. Students analyze problems clients have and consider the most desirable solution respecting their intension. This is a process that they apply legal knowledge they have learned to the facts properly and that they pursue solution respecting clients’ intention. It provides a training of proper legal solution. Moreover it clarifies defects and problems in the current legal system and gives them a chance to consider how to break them through. It is usual that even a case lawyers treat very often is the only big incident for the client. Students are expected to realize lawyer’s advice sometimes influences the client’s life and to work seriously.
Women and Human Rights: Features of the Legal Clinic

Are you wondering at the title of “women and human rights”? You might wonder why we say “women and human rights” not saying “men and human rights” and choose it as a subject of legal education. It is because some human rights have been infringed and ignored in the social phenomenon and in interpretation and application of the law on the ground of being women as only men used to be the subject of “human rights” and many standards have been set considering only men. Women’s human rights are not respected to the extent that we must especially say “women and human rights”.
For example, let us look at domestic violence issue. An overwhelming majority of victims are women and violence is not limited to physical violence. Psychological, economical and sexual violence can be seen anywhere. A vector of violence is generated from men to women without doubt, however, majority of our society including lawyers have been long underestimated it as a problem of “domestic affairs” or “a quarrel between husband and wife” Long-term violence victims lose self-confidence, disqualify themselves and lose ability of judgment and decision. Such circumstances cause responsibility shift by blaming victims. Victims must restore not only legal rights but the strength for living. If they consult a lawyer gathering their courage and they are told by the lawyer you are wrong, too, they will never believe lawyers, which will retard their recovery. Lawyers are not psychological or counseling professionals, but they should fully learn about clients’ feeling and action and should listen to what they want to say modestly. Please broaden your horizons and deepen your study realizing your limit so that you may become a reliable lawyer who will do no secondary damage and will be trusted by clients. First of all we would like you to study recognizing you look at things and think things from the same perspective as your clients.
