With over thirty years’ experience working for the legal department of a general trade company, I aspire to offer lectures and seminars based on actual cases.
Tsuneyoshi Tanaka (Professor of Business Law)
Corporate legal services cover the following areas of corporate activities: management and governance structure of corporation (compliance and governance); founding of corporations; the restructuring of corporations such as mergers, partitions and acquisitions; drafting and negotiation of contracts for sales transactions and projects; credit management and credit collection (bankruptcy proceedings and enforcement of security); acquisition and management of intellectual property rights; the settlement of disputes with counterparts or consumers. The roles of corporate legal services have become increasingly important; they have shifted and developed from clinical legal services dealing with accidents and cases to preventative legal services mainly consisting of legal research and drafting of contracts, and further to strategic legal services which is closely related to corporate management. Learn how to negotiate and draft contracts and acquire the abilities to grasp a variety of legal issues facing the company and identify the legal solutions to deal with the problems using civil, commercial and economic laws. It is crucial for future lawyers to understand the totality of corporate legal services and to acquire practical skills. With thirty yearsEexperience working for the legal department of a general trade company, I aspire to offer lectures and seminars based on actual cases.

Let us aim to be a lawyer strong in tax matters.
Miki Yoshikazu (Professor of Tax Law)
To law school students aspiring to become legal professionals in the future:
Lawyers of the 21st century are faced with more complex legal issues than ever before, and tax law service is one of those major issues. When people engage in private legal transactions, they are interested not just in issues related to private law but in how they are affected under tax law as well. Failure to deal with tax law issues beforehand may cause an unexpected taxation problem; a well-meant attempt may bring about a hideous tax burden. Thus, through courses in tax law, I intend to help students realize the importance of dealing with legal issues appropriately by giving concrete illustrations of how the issues under private law are linked to taxation issues. For example, in invoking acquisition prescriptions in real estates, the subject of occasional income taxation arises.
Why don’t you aim to become a lawyer with expertise in taxes?

Make efforts to be "Intellectual Property Lawyers" needed in our time.
Yoichiro Komatsu (Professor, Lawyer, Patent Attorney; Area of specialization: Civil Legal Affairs)
The number of lawsuits for infringement of intellectual property rights filed before district courts has doubled in the last ten years. The government set up the Strategic Council on Intellectual Property in 2002 with Prime Minister as its head. It released Strategic Program for the Creation, Protection and Exploitation of Intellectual Property in July 2003, marking the beginning of the serious efforts to make Japan “a country built on intellectual property “Inovation” has been our slogan recently. Now experts such as intellectual property lawyers are demanded nationwide. In such a rapidly changing environment, there is a significant shortage of experts. In this sense, there is a chance to make a great leap forward. Intellectual property law consists of industrial property law, copyright law, unfair competition prevention law, etc. At a glance, it would seem to require an extensive understanding of law, but in fact, each area relates to each other, so a comprehensive and systematic understanding of intellectual property law is not so difficult. Intellectual Property Law Courses will be interactive and use great deal of interesting examples and case-studies.
