Ritsumeikan boasts four world-class research institutes which work together to promote education and
research at Ritsumeikan University and network with researchers and academic societies all over the world.

Ritsumeikan Global Innovation Research Organization (R-GIRO)

With a focus on the pressing issues humankind faces this century, this organization is creating world-class, cutting-edge education and research centers in order to make social contributions through the sharing of research results and the training of human resources capable of playing an active role as global citizens. R-GIRO is creating a total of nine research centers in the natural sciences, and the entire university is participating in efforts towards the construction of a human ecology society.

Research Center for Sustainability Science (est. 2007)

The Research Center for Sustainability Science (RCS) was established in January of 2007 in recognition that the promotion of education and research on sustainability science is a crucial mission which has been assigned to 21st century universities. The RCS promotes research that utilizes its diverse human resources and comprehensive network in aiming for strategic innovation towards harmonious society construction.

Institute of Disaster Mitigation for Urban Cultural Heritage

In Kyoto, a historical city with a wealth of cultural heritage, this center pursues theoretical and technical research to protect cultural heritage from disaster and preserve it for future generations.
