Study in Kyoto Program
Accommodation

The International Center at Kinugasa Campus arranges housing for all Study in Kyoto Program students who are from institutions sharing an Agreement of Student Exchange with RU and who do not wish to find housing on their own.

Ritsumeikan International House Dormitories
Ritsumeikan International House I (I-House I) and Ritsumeikan International House II (I-House II) include private single rooms furnished with beds, linens, and desks. Each dormitory also features free laundry facilities, a lounge equipped with study materials and a TV, and free internet access via communal computers or LAN from each room.

House managers and several Japanese student buddies also reside in each I-House. In addition to assisting with problems encountered in daily life, these residents also create a unique and enjoyable cross-cultural living experience. Both dormitories are located within 30 minutes of the university by public transportation and are within easy access by bicycle.

Although the university manages these two dormitories, the number of participants in the Study in Kyoto Program has outgrown the capacity of these dormitories, and the university must now place several students every semester in alternative dormitory or apartment housing. Students should understand that the alternative housing may be located further away from the university than either of the Ritsumeikan International House dormitories and may be more expensive. The university is now making every effort to secure additional housing for future Study in Kyoto Program students. More details regarding available housing options are provided upon acceptance to the program.

Note: Due to a sudden rise in the number of students wishing to participate in the Study in Kyoto Program, the university is unable to provide guaranteed housing for students from institutions not sharing an Agreement of Student Exchange with RU. If you are a student from an institution not sharing an Agreement of Student Exchange with RU, you will be required to secure your own housing.

Housing for Business Track Students
Students enrolled in the Business Track of the Study in Kyoto Program will be placed in apartments secured by the university near the Biwako-Kusatsu Campus.

Homestays
Homestays are not part of the Study in Kyoto Program. However, short-term homestay programs may become available at times, and students are encouraged to make the most of such opportunities if and when they arise.

Getting Around
Getting around in Kyoto by bicycle is very convenient, so most students buy a bicycle during the program. New bicycles can be purchased from local bicycle stores at prices starting from approximately 10,000 yen.  Used bicycles start from around 5,000 yen. If you should prefer to use the bus to go around Kyoto, there are bus stops located conveniently close to the dormitories at a cost of 220 yen per ride.

Apartment Housing
Students who wish to find apartments on their own once they arrive in Japan may do so; however, the cost of establishing an apartment in Japan can be quite high. Landlords often require various deposits of several months rent each, some of which may not be refunded. Additionally, most apartments do not come equipped with basic necessities, such as a refrigerator, cooking stove, lights, or furniture.
