Admission Requirements

Intensive Japanese Language Track (IJL)
To be eligible to enroll in Study in Kyoto Program intensive language courses, applicants must have completed at least 200 hours of Japanese language study, show a mastery of TE-form and plain form verbs, hiragana, and katakana, as well as possess knowledge of approximately 100 kanji characters and 800 words. Non-native speakers of English enrolled in this track who wish to supplement their Japanese language studies with classes from the Japan and World Perspectives Track must have a minimum TOEFLR score of 520. Japan and World Perspectives Track (JWP) 
Students who have little or no previous experience with the Japanese language but are interested in Japan-related courses taught in English may apply to the English-based Japan and World Perspectives Track (JWP). Non-native speakers of English must have a TOEFL® score of 520 to be eligible to apply. This option is only available to students from partner institutions. (More info on JWP)

Business Track
The Study in Kyoto Program Business Track, a new addition to the program, is designed for students with a background in business studies who have little or no previous experience with the Japanese language. Students enrolled in the Business Track will take specialized courses in English that are offered by the College of Business Administration at Biwako-Kusatsu Campus in Shiga Prefecture. Application Materials
Applications for the Study in Kyoto Program can be downloaded from the Admissions page. Please be aware that there are two separate applications: one for the IJL Track and one for the JWP or Business Track. Please be sure you are using the correct forms.

Coordinator Check
Please be aware that beginning with admission for spring 2010, coordinators are required to indicate that they have checked the student's application documents before submission. Please indicate that you have done so by filling out the coordinator section of the application checklist and signing the bottom of the form. We appreciate your cooperation in reducing document errors, thereby allowing us to announce our admissions decisions in a more timely manner.

Scholarship Opportunities
Ritsumeikan University offers several scholarships to students participating on the Study in Kyoto Program from our partner universities. Please note that only students coming from a partner university under an Agreement for Student Exchange are eligible for scholarships. No other students are eligible to apply.
