Financial Support for International Students

Ritsumeikan University provides a range of financial support for international students. It also supports applications for scholarships provided by external organizations such as the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

  • Admission Fee and Tuition Fees for 3 semesters will be waived
  • Approx. 120,000 yen will be remitted monthly to cover your living expenses in Japan
  • Flight ticket from your country to Japan will be provided
  • Only students who will obtain a 'College Student' visa before enrollment at Ritsumeikan University are eligiblen

will be exempted from tuition fees. 635,500 yen must be borne by student.

*The evaluation for renewal of the scheme will be carried out at the end of the first academic year based on the academic records, the number of credits taken, etc.
In order to study at Ritsumeikan University, students who do not have Japanese nationality are required to apply for a 'College Student' visa. The University provides support for students in obtaining a visa. Please see step four of the After Admission page.
Notice of Award of the above scholarships is sent out with Result Notification for admission. Notice of Award is only sent to students who have been awarded scholarships. Candidates who do not receive notice of award should assume they have not been awarded a scholarship.

The level of the award is different for students in their 2nd year and above. For these students 238,000 yen, 190,400 yen or 95,200 yen per semester will be exempted from tuition fees, based on students' grades in the previous academic year.
JASSO Scholarship
  • 48,000 yen per month will be paid
  • Applicants must be self-financed international students
  • Only students with a 'College Student' visa are eligible to apply
  • Only students living outside Japan before enrollment at RU are eligible to apply
1 year for April enrollers,
6 months for September enrollers
19 Students must make an application in early April (for April enrollers) and early October (for September enrollers).
