A Brief Introduction to Ritsumeikan J&S High School
A Message from the Principal, Mr. Hiroshi Tanaka
Ritsumeikan Junior and Senior High School celebrates its 105th Anniversary in 2010. Ritsumeikan was founded on the principles of freedom and innovation. While studying at Ritsumeikan, students have various opportunities to develop cross-cultural and leadership skills, strengthen academic ability, and make contributions to society.
Our school, known as Seiwa School was founded in 1905. In 1922, the school was moved to Karasuma Kitaoji which is the current site of the primary school. Then in 1988, it became coeducational and moved to its present location in Fushimi (Fukakusa). During 2013, our campus will move to Nagaokakyo City.
In 2002, our school was designated to be a Super Science High School by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. I am excited to say that our contract has been renewed again for the next three years. We continue to explore and improve upon our science and mathematics programs.
In 2008, we introduced the Advanced Course (ADC) for the junior high school and the Medical Science Course (MSC) in senior high school. These courses are for those wishing to pursue a more advanced level of science or math studies with goals of studying or working in those fields in the future.
From April of 2010, we welcomed the first students from our primary school to the junior high school. Our first year of junior high school has increased from six homerooms to eight homerooms. To accommodate for better learning strategies, we have decreased the homeroom class size to 30 from 36 students for the regular classes. The new ADC class size will be up to 35 students.
