3-Day Workshop on Cross-sectional cooperation between faculty and administrative staff held at Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST)
Ritsumeikan held a 3-day workshop on Cross-sectional cooperation between faculty and administrative staff at E-JUST in Alexandria, Egypt, for three days from November 24th to November 26th.
E-JUST opened in Alexandria in February 2010 under the support of JICA Technical Cooperation project. So far E-JUST has received about 150 postgraduate students in 8 engineering fields and implemented Japanese style engineering education, such as small class teaching and laboratory based learning. A new engineering undergraduate course will be offered at E-JUST in 2016. In order to solve issues related to the establishment of the new course, Ritsumeikan decided to hold a workshop to promote cross-sectional cooperation between faculty and administrative staff in Egypt.
On the 24th, the first day of the workshop, the Top Management Seminar was held. In the seminar, Prof. Monte Cassim, Special Aide to the Chancellor and former President of Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, gave a lecture on the roles of top management at the university. Participants discussed challenges top management faces in organizational management and developed ideas for mid to long-term human resource development.
On the 25th and 26th, sessions on three themes - admission policy, university community shops and PR strategy - were held. Prior to the workshops in Egypt, faculty and administrative staff members had worked together in mixed teams in choosing the themes of the workshop and completing action plans. The aim was to spread the idea of cross- sectional cooperation between faculty and administrative staff among the whole E-JUST organization through this process.
This workshop was the first opportunity for all the faculty and administrative staff to get together and to discuss in order to reach the same goal. Staff members across different job titles and sections engaged in heated debate during group work on the 25th. On the last day of the workshop, all the participants, nearly 60 people, were awarded certificates of completion.
Ritsumeikan implemented two-week university management and administration training programs for ten executive and middle-level administrative staff members twice, in July 2012 and in February 2013 respectively. This was the first attempt to hold such workshops in Egypt.
Ritsumeikan Trust recognizes international cooperation that contributes to the progress of international society as the role educational institutes should play in the 21st century. It considers international cooperation projects as one of the most important pillars of the Ritsumeikan Academy.
