Borrowing and Photocopying Materials from Other Universities

Interlibrary loans (ILL)

If a University library obtains consent from a library at another university that holds the material you need, the University library will borrow the material for a certain period and you will be permitted to read it at the University library.

Requests to borrow materials can be made via one of the following methods.

  1. Visit the counter of one of the University's libraries.
  2. Use the InterLibraryLoan/Photocopy Request form in the User's Service menu in MyLibrary.
  3. Search for an item by clicking CiNii Books in RUNNERS OPAC and select "ILL" on the search details page.

※ Please note that some interlibrary loan materials cannot be photocopied owing to their condition or the policies of the universities lending the materials.
※ You have to pay the postage for receiving and returning the borrowed materials.
※ It takes about 1 - 2 weeks to receive materials. (If you are in a hurry, please consult with a member of staff when making your request.)
※ Materials are available for in-library use only and cannot be checked out.
※ Photocopies are allowed within permitted copyright limits (less than half the content of a work).Depending on the material, a member of library staff may need to make photocopies for you (20 yen/page, 50 yen handling fee). There are also some materials that cannot be photocopied. (If you require photocopies, please consult with the library when making your request.)
※ Once your request is accepted, you cannot cancel it.
※ If you make your request for materials at the Shugakukan Research Library or the Arts & Humanities Library, you need to receive the materials at the Hirai Kaichiro Memorial Library.
※ Undergraduate students cannot request to receive the materials at the Suzaku Research Library.
※In all cases, the requested materials should be picked up at a library counter.
※You can check the status of your requests by clicking Check Status of Loan/Photocopy in the User's Service menu in MyLibrary. Those who make a request through MyLibrary or RUNNERS OPAC can also check the status by clicking the Request Status Reference button that appears shortly on the screen after making the request.

Photocopies

You can make a request to photocopy a section of the material you need via one of the following methods.

  1. Fill out a Request for Photocopy or Loan of Materials Held by Other Organizations form and submit it at a library counter.
  2. Use the InterLibraryLoan/Photocopy Request form in the User's Service menu in MyLibrary.
  3. Search for an item by clicking CiNii Books in RUNNERS OPAC and select "ILL" on the search details page.

※ You have to pay the postage for receiving and returning the borrowed materials and the cost of photocopying.
※ It takes about 1 - 2 weeks to receive materials. (If you are in a hurry, please consult with a member of staff when making your request.)
※ You are allowed to photocopy less than one-half of a book in accordance with Article 31 of the Copyright Law. Additionally, the latest issue of a periodical cannot be photocopied.
※ Once your request is accepted, you cannot cancel it.
