What is MOT?

MOT stands for “Management of Technology”. It originally aims to study and practice technological innovations within a firm for successful products and service developments. The scope today has further broadened to promote cross-boundary innovations through collaborations among different companies and industries.

In the 1980s, the U.S. firms were concerned with a common issue that fundamental science and technology researches were not necessarily utilized for business purposes. In other words, the companies that has achieved significant technological breakthroughs could not enjoy appropriate returns on their R&D investment. They conducted a survey to find that successful products and services were developed when appropriate technologies were integrated with appropriate management for achieving the goals. That is what MOT is designed for accumulating the best practices in various industries over the world.
