Research Support Staff System

Content This system provides a salary subsidy of up to 300,000 yen per term (6 months) to hire “research support staff” for continued research, in order to allow employees to balance their research activities with pregnancy, childbirth, childcare, nursing care and other life events.

*Applicants who are planning to take maternity/postnatal leave,childcare leave, nursing care leave, and other leaves of absence during the use of this system are to follow the rules of “Treatment of Research Funding During Maternity Leave, Childcare Leave and Family Care Leave”.

Persons who are eligible to apply Pregnancy and Childcare
  • Pregnant teaching staff and researchers
  • Teaching staff and researchers with children younger than 3rd grade in elementary school whose spouses work practically full-time, as well as teaching staff and researchers who are single parents nurturing children on a daily basis.
  • ※Teaching staff and researchers with children with special needs can apply up until children's 6th grade year (12 years old)
  • Only the primary caregiver is allowed to apply. (Eligible to apply if the ratio of childcare burden is 50% with partner.)
Nursing Care
  • Teaching staff and researchers taking care of family members in a state requiring nursing care (a state where more than two weeks of constant care are necessary due to injury, illness, or physical/mental disability)
Duration of subsidy
  • Pregnancy and Childcare : 3 full years (up to 6 terms)
  • Nursing Care : 3 full years (up to 6 terms)

From AY2021, in addition to the semi-annual application (1 term, up to 300,000 yen), the full-year application (2 terms, up to 600,000 yen) can be selected.

*If a new life-event (pregnancy, childcare and nursing care) occurs, reapplication is possible.
