The Synchrotron Light Life Science Center
-Ritsumeikan University held the opening ceremony in Kusatsu campus.-
The opening ceremony of the Synchrotron Light Life Science Center was
held at Ritsumeikan University in Biwako-Kusatsu Campus on October 10,
2003.
The center starts to research the advanced Life Science Research by using
the smollest portable synchrotron in the world named MIRRORCLE developed
by the director, Yamada, which produces the brilliant far-infrared radiation
and a hard x-ray beam.
About 150 participants of researchers and students from the inside or outside
of the University joined in the ceremony.
Prof.Sadao Kawamura, vice president, who gave the speech that he respects
the center achieves the excellent success in the worldwide. Professor Yamada
as the director hoped the young reseachers could certainly achieve the
worldwide success if they dedicate themselves to the mission for nights
and days.

The center starts with research on the cancer imaging, borne inspection,
structural analysis of the chlorophyll aggregate, and bacteriorhodopsin
and establish the method for environmental and ecological diagnosis using
fluorescent x-ray and far infrared radiation.
The Synchrotron Light Life Science Research which Professor Yamada is a
leader was selected to the MEXT 21st Century COE Program.
