University Settlement:

Annual Report: "The scheme for University Settlements, which are likely to have a prosperous future, will probably promote a better co-operation between lay and clerical workers, and bring to the East End and elsewhere many recruits".
Report, October 1884: "We may now regard the University Settlement in Whitechapel as a fait accompli. Toynbee Hall, it is true, is as yet in the builder's handsm and the embryo university opens another session in the St.Jude's School-room; but there is every prospect of an almost immediate removal into more commodious quarters; the personnel of the Settlement is fairly complete; and a sort of inaugural meeting was actually held last week, though not in the new building. Once more, then, we may wish Mr. Barnett every success". [On Toynbee Hall (Japanese)]
