The Graduate School of Law offers advanced degrees in two areas of specialization: 1) Public Law and Public Administration, and 2) Civil Law. The Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree usually requires two years of academic study. and the Doctor of Laws degree (LL.D.) requires three additional years. In 1997 two specially designed Professional Development Programs were established. one* for those planning to take the national bar examination, and the other for those planning on pursuing a professional career as a civil servant, international lawyer, certified public accountant or patent attorney. (* Early admission is available in this program for certain exceptional students with only three years of university studies.)
The Ritsumeikan Law Review, published bimonthly in Japanese and annually in English, is a highly respected scholarly journal in Japan. It is also contributed to by scholars engaged in various joint research projects with Ritsumeikan faculty.
