Dr. Otsuka Mitsuo is Assistant Professor in Faculty of Sport and Health Science of Ritsumeikan University, and his research manuscript was accepted and published in PLoS ONE, which collaborated with Professor Tadao Isaka, and Toshiyuki Kurihara. In this study focused on block start of sprinters, it was demonstrated that the effect of a wide stance width at the set position on the subsequent start-dash performance. We conclude that a widened stance width at the set position affects the hip-joint kinematics and rear hip power generation during the block start phase, but the effect on the block-induced power was based on individual characteristics when considering sprinting performance during the whole block start phase.
