Takahiro Tanaka is Graduate Student of Sport and Health Science of Ritsumeikan University, and his research manuscript was accepted and published in Transactions of the JSME, which collaborated with Professor Tadao Isaka, Akinori Nagano, Associate Professor Kazumasa Ozeki in Osaka University of Health and Sport Science, Dr. Masahiro Fujimoto in National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology and Assistant Professor Toyoyuki Honjo in National Defense Academy.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of leg extension timings during kick-start on swimming start performance. As a result, for the swimmer take-off downward, earlier front leg extension timing would allow them to generate a greater horizontal take-off velocity on kick-start.
