カナダには、様々な文化背景を持つ人々がたくさんいます。また、公用語は2つですが、その他の言語を話すグループも多く見受けられます。私は、先住民が多くいる地域で生まれ育ちました。ですからこう言ったグループに深く親近感を覚える一方、彼らが平等性やアイデンティティーに関して苦悩する姿も理解できます。研究分野は、多文化主義の政治理論についてですが、特に、平等、多文化主義、国際人としての理念のバランスを研究しています。

また、新興コミュニティーや先住民が、更に積極的に民主主義に参加し、法的な権利を行使し、政治に関する認識を高め、自らを強化するために、どのようにインターネットを利用するのかにも興味があります。 インターネットは、民主的プロセスを高める可能性があり、人々がより積極的に地域（ローカル）そして、地球（グローバル）で活躍するよう支援するツールです。国際的な大きな問題にばかり目を向ける学生が多くいます。ですが、自分のアイデンティティー、市民としての存在が直接、または間接的にそう言った問題と関連していると言う目線、理解、つまり自分個人の政治的視点を持つことも重要です。世界で起こる諸問題、技術の革新は、世界中の人々でますます共有される傾向にあります。ですから、こう言ったグローバル化が進む現代において、世界で起こる事象に関わり、興味を持つ必要がますます高まってきています。それゆえに、英語でコミュニケーションをする力はますます必要とされ、世界中の情報、国境を越えた共同体、持続可能な環境にアクセスするためにも英語は必要なのです。

Canada has a large multicultural population, two official languages and many other linguistic groups. I grew up in an area that has a large indigenous population and feel a connection with these communities and their struggles for equality and recognition. My research areas include investigating the debates in multiculturalist political theory. Specifically I research the compatibility of political theories of equality, multiculturalism and cosmopolitan ideals.

I am also interested in how the Internet is being used by emerging communities and aboriginal peoples to further democratic participation and the exercise of legal rights, political awareness and community empowerment. The Internet provides a tool to potentially enhance the democratic process and enable people to become more active local and global citizens. Many students are often aware of broad, international issues as they apply to other countries. It is also important to adopt a perspective and understanding which places your own identity or citizenship in direct or indirect relation to the issues [makes the personal political]. Engagement and interest in world events is becoming increasingly important in a globalized era as problems and innovations are increasingly shared with the rest of the world. Communicative competence in English language continues to be a necessary skill and a means to access global information, transnational community and a sustainable environment.
