What are the differences in curriculum between International Relations and Global Studies?
International Relations majors choose one of four programs in their second year, while Global Studies majors do not. International Relations majors take an English language course in their first year, while Global Studies majors do not (Global Studies majors take a course to acquire skills for learning "in" English).
Once I choose a programme from the Department of International Relations, will I be unable to take subjects from other programmes?
You can take courses outside of your programme (excluding some from the International Public Service Programme).
There is a graduation requirement of taking at least 20 credits from courses from your programme, so you need to be aware of your credits and where it comes from.
Depending on the programme chosen for the International Relations major, are there any restrictions on class selection for the seminars starting in the third year?
You are not restricted in your choice of seminars by your choice of programmes.
Is it possible for International Relations students to take Advanced Seminar courses in English? Can Global Studies students take a seminar (Advanced Seminar) offered in Japanese?
Some classes are not available for selection, but 70-80% of the classes can be taken.
Am I able to graduate in four years if I partake in a six-month to a year-long exchange program?
Many who participate in exchange programs graduate in four years. Depending on the course content, credits earned at their study abroad destination are recognized and can be supplemented as International Relations credits. When subjects and courses are chosen wisely, timely graduation from Ritsumeikan University is possible. Guidance is available before you participate in your study abroad.
