RU and AU participated in the Global Insights Webinar series

JDP Global Insight Seminar Report
During the Fall 2020 semester, faculty from Ritsumeikan University (RU) and American University (AU) jointly took part as panellists in the international webinar series titled “Global Insights”. Global Insights were organised as weekly live-streamed, moderated panel series which provided different perspectives on topical issues currently facing researchers, policymakers and planners worldwide in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The series featured experts from leading institutions in the study of international affairs including the Balsillie School of International Affairs (Canada), which also acted as the coordinator for the series, the Department of Politics & International Studies at the University of Warwick (UK), the School of International Service at American University (USA), the Institute of Strategic Affairs in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), the Department of Politics & Public Administration at the University of Konstanz (Germany), and the College of International Relations at the Ritsumeikan University (Japan), which joined Global Insights from its second season in Fall 2020.

Despite the challenging conditions presented by the fact that the Seminar Series were live-streamed at 11am EST – which meant 12am JST and later 1am JST following the change to winter time in the EST zone – faculty from Ritsumeikan University’s College of International Relations joined 6 out of the 10 webinars organised between September and November 2020.

More information on the webinars and recordings of previous sessions can be accessed from the link below:

Given that many in-person academic events have been suspended or cancelled in the light of the on-going pandemic, the Global Seminar Series offered an exciting opportunity for the JDP students to expand their understanding of the current international affairs and supplement these with concrete insights from experts in different parts of the world.
