Perovskite solar cells

Organometal tri-halide perovskite thin-film solar cells are the new comers in solar community. The highest efficiency has achieved 20.1% after 5 years exploration, which is faster than any known materials. Moreover, the solution processed feature make the cost of these cells decrease to the level of traditional fossil energy.

The absorber layer is an organic-inorganic hybrid material with perovskite structure, as shown in Figure 1. Where A represents organic cation of CH3NH3 or CH(NH2)2, B denotes metal ion of Pb or Sn and X displays a halide of Cl, Br or I.

Two types of devices with structure of mesoporous and planar are explored. The mesoporous TiO2 layer is deposited to help the carrier collection. Meanwhile, the solar cell with planar structure is also work well thanks to the excellent property of perovskite layer. In our laboratory, we focus on the fabrication of high efficiency perovskite solar cells with mesoporous structure, as shown in Figure 2.

A high efficiency of 16.6 % is demonstrated in our laboratory, shown in Figure 3. The target is to fabricate high efficiency perovskite solar cells without hysteresis.
