Professor introduction
Kenichiro Suzuki (鈴木 健一郎)
■Before starting of research
It was 13 years ago (1994) to get on the JR Biwako line (Toukaido Line)
from Kyoto Station, and to complete the station in the place in which it
had gone for 19 minutes toward the east. Because the campus of the university
had moved newly previously doing for about 20 minutes from here further
with the bus, this station was built. Ritsumeikan University large learning
[wako] [kusa] Tsu campus (BKC) separated from Kyoto Kinugasa that got cramped
and was established newly as a base of an education research that reason
engineering and managed and was economic. After that, one middle age's
man got off to this station ten years later. It is newly adopted by the
professor in the department of science and engineering, and he takes the
family along this time and has moved from the Tsukuba city in Kanto to
this age. He is in a corporate laboratory till then and has watched the
glory and the decline of the semiconductor industry near himself. And,
a new possibility was held in the university as a place where the blockage
of the society and the enterprise was broken down.
There was nothing in the laboratory like seemed being natural, too, when I obtained and had gone for one's post to the university the employment. Then, I was going to start up the research of nanotechnology and the biotechnology technology putting while it was a few. However, it came to the university and, surprisingly, six students were waiting for me. I hear that they hope to begin [sotsu] laboratory early, and were waiting for me to show up to the university every day. These young people's zeal shook me. And, when I had also to begin researching early some day, it began to be in a hurry. Then, let's ..length.. [raku] [kenkyuu] I and started the research that applied this by a big technical improvement now in the telecommunication field that had progressed around MEMS (minute machine system) in which it was involved technology and thought
■Laboratory introduction
Because the feature on an educational side of the MEMS technology uses
the machine structure, the structure and the movement of the device are
visually expressible. Moreover, the device can be designed even without
waiting for detailed understanding of the device by using CAD technology.
The device can be made very easily by the spread of the device of the process
of the semiconductor. Therefore, it came to be able at first to advance
the experiment for myself now though they were students who were observing
my work. However, researching in a sometimes strange direction advances,
is not a nothing but vain effort because it lacks deep understanding of
the device, and it might be ended to become it with [tsutomu] power. I
am recommending all researchers to discuss it positively. A lot of white
boards are set up in our laboratory. The idea that arose newly with the
student is discussed by using this white board day and night.
■For industry-university cooperation
It is said that the industry-university cooperation of present Japan is
near the situation of the United States in the 80's. It came to expect
the university to send the result to the education and the research from
weakening of the physical strength of the two countries and the industrial
world. It is the most important to excavate topics of research that can
be interested in both the university and the enterprise. To our regret,
it is difficult to excavate such topics of research in present Japan. It
is important to expand the personal exchanges between the university and
the enterprise further. Personal exchanges that I say here are the one
to be raised up to the stage where trust and respect arise in both patiently.
■At the end
A man who gets off near Biwako will see the world 20 previous in year or more that slipped at time. A man however ..dream.. is looking facing at different present this world is now.
