RU-IITH International Industry-academic collaborative PBL program 2016 commenced

PBL themes in 2016 are Electricity supply, Water supply, Urban mobility and Healthcare Service.
Five teams (each team consists of 3 RU and 2 IITH students) investigate above problems facing Indian society and propose solutions.

15 RU students selected from 62 applicants will visit India in September to hold the first PBL workshop with IITH students and present a progress report.

In December, IITH students will visit Japan to hold the second PBL workshop with RU students and present a final report.

Japanese Language Class started

Japanese Language Class has started on December 3rd.

This is conducted on a weekly basis for students staying on short-to long term program and lasts until the end of December.

They will visit Kyoto-city during the class and learn Japanese traditional culture while seeing Kyoto Museum for World Peace, Kitano-Tenmangu shrine and local supermarket.

Activities on industry-academic collaborative PBL program from June 12th to 18th

Factory observation tour on June 12th

Visited Mitsubishi electric, OMRON Social Solutions and HIYOSHI Corporation.

Each company introduced their job descriptions while presenting their advanced technology and the subject on developing overseas project.

 



PBL workshop with RU students on June 13th

20 students (10 RU students and 10 IIT-H students) divided into 5 teams (a team consists of 2 RU students and 2 IIT-H students) and they set about PBL (Project Based Learning) respectively.



Fieldwork in Kyoto city on June 14th

Enjoyed fieldwork with RU students while visiting Fushimi-Inari shrine and Ikumatsu (Japanese traditional Inn) at Kami-Kiyamachi.



Lectures and Laboratory introduction from June 15th to 17th

Visited laboratories in College of Science and Engineering, Information Science and Engineering and Life Sciences and learned Japanese science and technology from various angles such as how the research contents concerns the social problems.

Special Lectures by Mr. Hidemi Takasu, Executive Director of Rohm Co.,Ltd. and Mr. Yutaka Tsukada, former IBM fellow were also delivered respectively.



Lecture of Japanese Language and Culture on June 16th

Learned Japanese greetings and basic Japanese language as a culture experience, enjoyed wearing Japanese traditional clothes. They looked so excited and had a lot of fun taking pictures.



Lecture of Indian and Japanese culture on June 18th

Indian instructor delivered a lecture about Japanese customs from Indian’s viewpoint and Japan–specific culture.

 

 

Final Presentation on June 18th

Each of 5 teams made the final presentation which shows the problems in India and their solutions based on the knowledge of Japan technology obtained through this PBL program and the workshop with RU students.

The themes of presentation are Transport, Disaster, Water, Energy and Healthcare.

Visitors from relevant companies were invited and they provided advises in accordance with their themes.

IIT-H students arrived at Ritsumeikan University on June 11th, 2015

IIT-H International Industry-academic collaborative PBL program at BKC commenced.

 

10 students from IIT-H arrived at our seminar house “EPOCH Ritsumei 21” on June 11th and stay there until June 19th.

They hold a workshop with 10 students in Ritsumeikan selected for this program and make a presentation on Thursday, June 18th for visitors from relevant companies.

Various activities such as factory observation tour, fieldwork in Kyoto, lectures and laboratory introduction will be implemented during their stay.

Commencement of consultation with partner universities in India

On December 20th and 22nd, 2014, Professor Kenichi Kasahara, Dean of College/Graduate School of Science and Engineering, with 4 faculty members visited partner universities, NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte in Mangalore and Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad.

We received courteous welcome of faculty in both universities and discussed concrete program contents of short-term exchange program. Also agreed to promote the long-term program for research exchanges.

2 Student from Nitte University have arrived at Ritsumeikan.

GSSE had welcomed 2 new Internship Students, Mr.Yathin Krishna and Ms.Shwetha Sivanna from NMAM Institute of Technology in India.
Mr. Krishna is going to do his research at Prof. Yoshinobu YOSHIHARA's Lab and Ms.Sivanna is going to do her research at Prof.Kazuyoshi TATEYAMA's Lab.
