□ Yusuke TANABIKI
Postdoctoral Fellow, Ritsumeikan Global Innovation Research Organization, Ritsumeikan University
  [Period] 2012/7/25-2012/9/22 (60 Days)
[Place] The University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom)
[Research Theme] Constricting Rural Socio-economic Systems Based on Low-carbon Strategy Using Biochar
[Brief Summery] Climate change mitigation strategies are needed for the disaster reduction of cultural heritage in the macroscopic point of view. In this research project, I visited UK Biochar Research Centre (UKBRC) in the School of Geosciences, University of Edinburgh and participated in the research group of biochar policy. I had a deep discussion with the research staffs about methods and effects of carbon storage in farmland, scenario studies for carbon policy, and our project which is proceeding in Japan. Also, I had some presentations on Japanese case in the section meeting of UKBRC and the workshop in JHI.
UKBRC has accumulated knowledge of the methods and affluent data of the effectiveness of carbon storage in farmlands. We are involved in similar project for climate change mitigation in Kameoka, Kyoto. I could get comparative data to use as a reference of our study. Also, it is certain that the international academic connection and transaction of research staff between UKBRC and our Regional Information Research Centre will be more strong and close.
