Entrepreneurship (Innovation and Entrepreneurship)
The nature of entrepreneurship is examined through cases from Silicon Valley, with a focus on hands-on entrepreneurship experiences. The basic format for the course is training exercise-oriented, so classes involve plenty of discussion among students.
Venture Business
Students deepen their understanding of entrepreneurship and new business venturing in contemporary society. They study the innovation and ideas upon which entrepreneurship depends.
Business Planning
This course examines business affairs in a corporate society, from the fundamentals of what a business is to business history, the ideal businessperson, and the people-goods-money relationship that is the basis of any business. Also covered are topics like how to read a statement of accounts and how to set up a business plan, keeping in view the connections between business administration, accounting, and economics studies.
Financial Planning
Flows of money (financial activities) always arise when a company engages in business. This class provides the knowledge and theory needed to make rational decisions relating to these financial activities. Core topics include: decision-making related to corporate investment (capital budgeting), how to choose the best financing method from options such as issuing stock or bonds or borrowing from a bank (financing decision-making), determining the equity-to-debt ratio (capital structure), dividend allocation (dividend policy), and safe, low-cost, short-term fund management (working capital management).
Production System
In this course, areas once treated somewhat independently, such as production (manufacturing), R&D, in-company and external production (domestically or internationally), and technology-related activities, are considered as part of an organically integrated production system. The course examines the optimal organization of these facets in relation to management (production) strategy.
