立命館大学コリア研究センターは、このたび韓国学中央研究院（Academy of Korean Studies：AKS）が実施する「海外韓国学中核大学育成事業（Core University Program）」に採択されました。

 本事業は、海外における韓国学教育・研究の拠点形成を支援し、韓国学研究の発展と国際的な研究ネットワークの強化を目的とするプログラムです。

 本センターでは、本事業を通じて、国内外の研究機関との連携を一層推進するとともに、研究交流、人材育成、教育・研究基盤の充実を図り、国際的な韓国学研究の発展に貢献してまいります。

Project for Establishing a “Korean Studies Hub Port” in Kyoto
— Building a Sustainable Research Center through Next-Generation Scholar Development and International Network Formation

The objective of this project is to establish a sustainable research center capable of continuously nurturing the next generation of Korean Studies scholars by constructing a “Hub Port” for Korean Studies in Kyoto and forming an international Korean Studies network.

Specifically, the project aims to gradually realize the following goals:
(1) institutional strengthening of the research foundation (human and material infrastructure);
(2) systematic training of early-career and next-generation scholars;
(3) structural linkage of domestic and international academic networks; and
(4) theorization and international dissemination of the “Ritsumeikan Model of Korean Studies” grounded in peace and democracy.

By leveraging Kyoto’s historical status as an academic city and the large-scale research infrastructure of the university, the ultimate goal is to construct a central hub for Korean Studies where scholars, knowledge, and public engagement circulate dynamically.

The systematic implementation of this project is expected to produce the following outcomes:

Sustainable development of Korean Studies in Japan and East Asia

Training of internationally competitive young Korean Studies scholars

Establishment of a Kyoto-based Korean Studies research network (Korean Studies Hub Port)

Presentation of a public humanities model connecting academia and civil society

International standardization of the Ritsumeikan Model of Korean Studies as “Korean Studies of Peace and Democracy”

This project is not merely an enhancement of a research center, but a strategic initiative aimed at structurally reorganizing and advancing the foundation of Korean Studies in Japan.

Project A: Strengthening Institutional Capacity

This component strengthens the institutional foundation of the center by employing professional administrative staff and a full-time assistant professor specializing in Korean Studies to ensure stable implementation of research and educational programs. It also enhances institutional and material infrastructure by upgrading research equipment, improving the center’s facilities, multilingualizing the website, and expanding the academic journal Korea Research, thereby reinforcing research dissemination capacity.

Project B: Researcher Development

This component establishes a continuous training pipeline from undergraduate studies to master’s, doctoral, postdoctoral, and eventually university faculty positions. Through scholarships for master’s and doctoral students, financial support for research in Korea and conference participation, the organization of a Next-Generation Korean Studies Forum, and structured career development programs, the project builds a sustainable system for cultivating Korean Studies scholars.

Project C: Strengthening Research Networks

Building upon the World Congress of Korean Studies, this component deepens collaboration with overseas research institutions through MOUs and visiting scholar programs. Simultaneously, it strengthens domestic academic exchange centered on the Kyoto Consortium for Korean Studies and organizes regular international symposia, establishing Kyoto as a key nodal point in global Korean Studies.

Project D: Strengthening the Academic Foundation of Korean Studies

This component reinforces educational and research foundations through the development of advanced Korean-language courses, special lectures, and regular research seminars. It also organizes public lectures and cultural programs featuring Korean film, K-pop, and webtoons, thereby returning academic achievements to society and promoting the practical development of “Korean Studies of Peace and Democracy.”
