About the Writing Support Room
About the Writing Support Room
At the 2019 Plenary Council of the University, key issues such as improving the quality of curricular education, enhancing the learning process, and fostering a sense of growth were discussed.
As part of the latter phase of the university's “Collaborative Innovation Initiatives” (2021–2022), which bridge the R2020 to R2030 Vision, Ritsumeikan considered the establishment of bilingual writing support services (in both Japanese and English) to strengthen students’ academic writing skills, especially for senior theses and research projects.
Based on these discussions, Ritsumeikan University launched the Writing Support Room in April 2021 to support undergraduate students in their report and paper writing.
Our Mission
As of April 2024, Ritsumeikan University comprises 16 colleges, each with distinct academic fields. Naturally, the formats and styles of academic writing—such as reports and theses—differ according to discipline-specific conventions.
The Writing Support Room provides foundational writing support that is broadly applicable across all disciplines, especially at the introductory level.
We also value the diverse academic backgrounds of our students and provide support that respects each student’s field of study and learning process.
Our mission is to support students in developing the ability to write academic papers on their own by respecting their field, diversity, and individuality—and by encouraging growth and discovery through writing.
Overview of Support
The Writing Support Room is operated by the Writing Support Project, which is a program within the Center for Teaching and Learning, part of the Division of Academic Development and Teaching Innovation.
Located in the Gakujikan Hall on Kinugasa Campus, we provide consultations to all campuses through online sessions.
Writing consultations are conducted by trained graduate student writing tutors and professional staff.
All undergraduate students of Ritsumeikan University are welcome to make a reservation and use the service.
