A Message from the PI

For Students

Isozaki Lab conducts research grounded in mechanical engineering, integrating information science, physics, and biology to develop new devices and systems (see the Research page for details). Our goal is to create microdevices with structures as small as a human hair, or even smaller, and to integrate them into systems that open new possibilities in science and engineering. In particular, we aim to develop game-changing devices and systems that can transform life science research.

Students who join the lab will learn not only research techniques, but also fundamental skills for working independently and collaboratively. Research is often challenging and does not always proceed as planned. Therefore, we especially welcome students who are serious about research, willing to make sustained efforts, and eager to think, build, test, discuss, and improve their work through repeated trials.

Before establishing Isozaki Lab, I worked not only at universities but also at public research institutes and private companies (see the Members page for the details). Through these experiences, I have learned what kinds of abilities are useful across many career paths. At Isozaki Lab, I would like to share these experiences through research supervision and help students develop the skills, mindset, and independence needed for their future careers.

If you are interested in our lab, please visit our X account to see our activities and consider joining us. Before applying, please make sure to contact Isozaki (aisozaki [at] fc.ritsumei.ac.jp).

For Researchers

Isozaki Lab conducts interdisciplinary research under the theme of accelerating science with mechano-informatics. We welcome researchers with expertise in developing devices and systems that can advance science and engineering. Experience in microfluidics, MEMS, electronics, control engineering, mechatronics, optics, or informatics is particularly useful for research in our laboratory. We also welcome researchers in biology, medicine, and related fields who are motivated to learn and apply our engineering technologies to their own research fields.

Isozaki Lab is currently seeking international postdoctoral researchers who are interested in applying for the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan with Isozaki Lab as their host laboratory. Please contact Isozaki (aisozaki [at] fc.ritsumei.ac.jp) if you are interested in joining our laboratory.

For Lab Managers and Technical Staff

Isozaki Lab also welcomes individuals interested in supporting research as laboratory managers or technical staff. Possible duties include laboratory management, experimental support, equipment and consumables management, microfabrication support, cell culture maintenance, data organization, and other research-related operations. It is not necessary to have all of these skills in advance. We value people who have relevant strengths and are willing to learn new techniques while supporting research at the interface of mechanical engineering and the life sciences.

For laboratory manager positions, Japanese language proficiency is required because the role involves communication with university offices, vendors, and students. For technical staff positions, Japanese proficiency may not be required depending on the duties.

Please note that available positions depend on current funding and project needs. Please contact Isozaki (aisozaki [at] fc.ritsumei.ac.jp) if you are interested in joining us.
