There are a number of facilities available to graduate students researching at Ritsumeikan University. These facilities offer various features in order to accommodate a variety of research and study styles.

    Graduate Study Rooms emphasize quietness, offering an atmosphere where graduate students can concentrate without being interrupted.
    The numerous partitioned-off carrel desks provide graduate students with a semi-private space to work on theses and presentation materials.

  • Spaces with the necessary tools to gather information and work

    PC stations have been set aside for graduate students to freely use. They are divided according to their intended purpose of use, for example, checking information and emails from the university or for creating workshop and presentation materials.

  • Space for group meetings and discussions

    There is an open space called Research Commons where graduate students can share ideas and research achievements through meetings, workshops and presentations and communicate with each other and members of faculty. Users are also able to hold open-style seminars and poster sessions.

  • Mini-presentation spaces for sharing research achievements

    Presentation rooms and seminar rooms where graduate students can voluntarily hold research meetings and workshops are available. The rooms are equipped with large-sized displays and projectors to provide the perfect environment for giving presentations.

Kyuronkan Hall, which was opened in April 2015, is a three-story research building exclusively for graduate students.
Furthermore, ideas from graduate students who often conduct workshops were incorporated into the design of the new facility.

【Biwako-Kusatsu Campus】Tricea
Tricea was built as a research facility primarily for the three departments related to Environmental and Urban Engineering in the College of Science and Engineering. In order to create various opportunities for communication between students and between students and faculty, a “Labo Cafe” was established on each floor along with “Teaching Commons” located in the corridors in front of the research labs.

Hirai Kaichiro Memorial Library (Kinugasa Campus)

The Ritsumeikan libraries maintain a collection of approximately 3 million books, with each campus having its own library facilities. It is possible for students to request materials from other campuses and even other universities. Graduate students can borrow up to 100 items for 100 days. In addition, various resource rooms maintain a great number of highly specialized research materials. A new library was built in construction at Kinugasa Campus in 2016.
