Kyoto is home to some of Japan's most important World Heritage Sites such as the Ryoanji, Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion) Temples, and Nijo Castle. Ritsumeikan University School of Law is located within walking distance of Nijo Castle. Kyoto enjoys a harmonious blend of ancient and modern, thus giving students a unique opportunity to experience all aspects of Japanese culture.

Getting around Kyoto

Kyoto has a well-developed transport network. It is very easy to explore by public transport in the city and vicinity: the buses, trains, and subways will take you where you want to go fast and efficiently.

  • By City Bus

    City bus routes are extensive in Kyoto. You will be provided an English Bus Route Map on the first day of the seminar. The fare within the city is 230 yen, and the fare for traveling outside of the city depends on the distance traveled. All-day passes are also available at the major stations.

  • By Subways and Trains

    The Kyoto Municipal Subway Line consists of two inner-city lines: "Karasuma" south-north line and "Tozai" east-west line. The fare ranges from 220 to 360 yen. The Nijo station on the Tozai Line is located 3 minutes-walk from the Suzaku campus.

    There are various train companies available in Kyoto: Keihan, Hankyu, Kintetsu, and JR (Japan railway) have their own train lines. Whereas Keihan, Kintetsu and Hankyu cover only the Kansai area, JR covers the whole nation of Japan.
