1)Mechanisms Determining Shedding of Membrane Proteins
Specific membrane proteins are shed depending on the situation, but the mechanisms determining which membrane proteins are shed are not yet clarified. We have identified several membrane proteins whose shedding susceptibility is regulated by alternative splicing. Through the analysis of these membrane proteins, we aim to uncover the mechanisms that determine which proteins are shed.
2)Mechanisms Enhancing Shedding
Shedding is activated depending on the situation, but the mechanisms behind this activation are also unclear. We focus on potential changes in the membrane proteins being shed, the enzymes responsible for shedding, as well as the shape and composition of the cell membrane itself where shedding occurs, to elucidate the mechanisms enhancing shedding.
3)Physiological Roles of Shedding
The membrane proteins we have identified as being shed possess various functions, including cell proliferation, adhesion, pathogen uptake, and ion concentration regulation. We will analyze how shedding regulates each of these functions to elucidate the overall physiological roles of shedding.
