This workshop brings together established and early career scholars from across the world to share and discuss the latest research and key challenges in the study of slavery and slavery-like practices – from historical examples to contemporary challenges around human trafficking and forced labour.
The workshop will be hosted by the Centre for the Study of International Slavery (CSIS) – a ground-breaking cross-disciplinary research collaboration between the University of Liverpool and the International Slavery Museum which recently celebrated 10 years since being established. The workshop connects with, and follows on from another which took place at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto in September 2016 and is generously supported by the British Council through the Renkei network of UK and Japanese universities. The overarching theme will be the linkage between history, politics and heritage. The workshop sessions will be varied, cross-disciplinary and encourage participants to think beyond their own research.
