【in situ CEY XAFS Experiment】 (Mar. 1, 2025, YI)
On February 25th, we conducted in situ CEY XAFS experiment at BL-3 in the SR Center. Dr. Niwa and Dr. Kido from KEK and Dr. Watanabe from Kyoto University visited us and conducted experiments in collaboration with four students from our laboratory.
I was quite worried about whether the measurements would come out properly, but the data we got was better than I expected!
【Experiments at SPring-8】 (Feb. 8, 2025, YI)
From Jan. 30 to Feb. 3, we conducted the imaging XAFS experiment at BL32B2 of SPring-8. Three B4 students and two M1 students stayed for 4 nights and 5 days.
There was a light snowfall. Everyone is as energetic as ever.
I was excited to hear that the SPring-8 cafeteria had been renovated, but...

【Research Facility】 In-situ CEY XAFS cell (Jan. 16, 2025, YI)
We have revived the in situ CEY XAFS measurement cell developed by Dr. Watanabe (currently a special assistant professor at Kyoto University), who completed his doctoral course in our laboratory. Even the three experienced students had a hard time assembling it, but they managed to complete the assembly.

【Experiments at KEK-PF summary】 (Nov. 28, 2024, YI)
We conducted experiments in parallel at both PF/BL-9C and PF-AR/NW2A at KEK (Tsukuba). A total of 10 students, 6 graduate students and 4 undergraduate students, stayed for 6 nights and 7 days.
The experiment started with only BL-9C on the first day (20th) and only NW2A on the second day (21st).
On the second day (21st), light was not available at BL-9C due to machine studies at the facility, so an in situ experimental environment for catalysts was set up during that time.
Experiments are hard, so it's important to have some diversion!
In situ XAFS measurements of catalyst samples at BL-9C went better than expected. For the batteries... various issues have become apparent, and it feels like we have obtained a lot of important information for the next step.
When we cannot eat out due to time constraints ...
It was difficult to get used to the gas equipment system at BL-9C, but we managed to complete the experiment safely.
【Experiments at KEK-PF #3】 Imaging XAFS Experiments (Nov. 23, 2024, YI)
In parallel with BL-9C, imaging XAFS experiments are also being carried out at NW2A. Thanks to the cooperation of Dr. Niwa at KEK-PF, the experiment has been progressing extremely smoothly from the beginning.

In situ XAFS measurements at elevated temperatures under gas atmosphere at BL-9C. Although we had some difficulties setting up the gas flow environment, the planned experiments are proceeding smoothly.

We participated in the 134th Catalyst Conference held at Nagoya University on September 18-20. Two graduate students (K san and A san) gave poster presentations.
【Research Facility】 Electromagnetic valve for in-situ XAFS measurements (Sep. 17, 2024, YI)
We replaced the electromagnetic valve system used for in-situ XAFS measurements with gas switching at BL-3 in the SR Center.
【M1 Midterm Presentation】 (Sep. 10, 2024, YI)
On the afternoon of Monday, September 9th, the M1 midterm presentations (poster presentations introducing themes) were held. The seven M1 students in the lab gave excellent presentations.
Since they had made matching T-shirts, they should have worn them at the presentation!
【XAFS Summer School 2024 #1】 (Aug. 25, 2024, YI)
The lectures continued until the morning of the third day.
All the students who participated in the summer school had the poster presentations.
There were a total of 42 poster presentations at this event, of which 19 were from our laboratory.
結果、Two graduate students (K san and U san) won poster awards! Congratulations!!
There were many challenges involved in organizing the academic event, but I think it was a great success!

【XAFS Summer School 2024 #1】 (Aug. 25, 2024, YI)
XAFS Summer School 2024 of the Japan XAFS Research Society was held at Epoch Ritsumeikan University. Five graduate students from the lab were involved as executive committee members, taking part in a variety of activities from planning to running the event. Almost all of the lab members participated, and it was a very good experience, studying XAFS and presenting research posters.
This summer school had a large number of participants and we were able to interact with students from other universities.

The third year student experiment (XAFS measurement) has started again this year. Almost all of our lab members are supporting the experiment.

We conducted experiments in parallel at both PF/BL-9C and PF-AR/NW2A at KEK (Tsukuba). A total of 11 students, 8 graduate students and 3 undergraduate students, stayed for 4 nights and 5 days. A doctoral student (E san) from Indonesia also participated for the first time.
Gas leaks are strictly prohibited in in situ XAFS experiments. Please check carefully.
U san learned new skills at NW2A! However, due to a malfunction with the rotating stage, we were unable to perform the CT experiment.
This time, ``maguro'' and ``chii kawa'' appeared on the beamline.
As usual, we went out to have various dishes. But N san, is that a bit dangerous?

We conducted microscopic XAFS experiments at PF-AR/NW2A of KEK (Tsukuba). A total of 8 students, 3 graduate students and 5 undergraduate students, stayed for 4 nights and 5 days. This time, there were only 7 undergraduate students, stayed for 4 nights and 5 days.
We are extremely grateful to Professor Niwa of PF for his assistance.
Ichinoya is a place we must visit when we are in Tsukuba.

We have carried out the imaging XAFS experiments at BL32B2 of SPring-8. A total of 4 students, 1 graduate student and 3 undergraduate students, stayed for 4 nights and 5 days.
Since we did the same experiments in July, this time it went pretty smoothly. The battery is in good condition!

We conducted experiments in parallel at both PF/BL-9C and PF-AR/NW2A of KEK (Tsukuba). A total of 8 students, 3 graduate students and 5 undergraduate students, stayed for 4 nights and 5 days.
We went to various restaurants around KEK to try soba noodles, curry, hotpot, and meat!
We conducted the experiments using hydrogen gas at BL-9C. There were no gas leaks!
予Although some of the experiments did not go as planned, we should identify the issues and use them for the next time.

The 26th XAFS Conference in Japan was held for three days from September 4th to 6th, 2023 at the ROHM Memorial Hall in the BKC of Ritsumeikan University.
As a laboratory, we supported the operations and worked at the reception and venue.

The 36th Annual Meeting of the Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Society and the Joint Symposium on Synchrotron Radiation Science was held at Ritsumeikan University BKC on January 7-9, 2023. The event was hosted by the SR Center, with support from our laboratories, and four poster presentations were also given.
