タイ国立開発行政大学院大学（National Institute of Development Administration、通称NIDA）より、Ann Suwaree Ashton准教授をオンラインでお迎えし、ゲスト講義を開催しました。本講義は、今夏にタイで実施される観光マネジメント専攻の海外フィールドワークに向けた事前学習の一環として実施されました。講義では、タイにおけるCommunity-Based Tourism（CBT）の現状や、地域発展におけるCBTの役割と課題について、Ashton准教授のこれまでのご研究と地域での実践を踏まえてご講演いただきました。さらに、フィールドワークで訪問予定の世界遺産都市アユタヤの現況や、観光地におけるアニマルウェルフェアなど、タイの観光を理解するうえで重要なトピックについても、具体的なお話が展開されました。なお、フィールドワーク中にはNIDAの訪問も予定されており、現地で改めてAshton准教授からお話を伺う機会も設けられています。今回のゲスト講義は、フィールドワーク先であるタイおよび同国の観光産業や観光開発の現状への理解を深める、貴重な学びの機会となりました。

We invited Dr Ann Suwaree Ashton, an associate professor at the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), Thailand, to deliver an online guest lecture. This lecture was held as part of the preparatory learning for the overseas fieldwork scheduled to take place this summer in Thailand, as part of Ritsumeikan University’s MBA in Tourism Management programme. In her lecture, Dr Ashton discussed the current state of Community-Based Tourism (CBT) in Thailand, as well as the roles and challenges of CBT in regional development, drawing on her extensive research and practical experience in the field. She also addressed a range of important topics for understanding tourism in Thailand, including the current situation in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Ayutthaya, which is one of the planned fieldwork sites, and issues related to animal welfare in tourist destinations. During the fieldwork, the group is also scheduled to visit NIDA, where there will be another opportunity to hear directly from Dr Ashton. This guest lecture served as a valuable opportunity to deepen students’ understanding of Thailand, as well as the current state of its tourism industry and tourism development.
