Babysitter Fee Subsidy System

Details A subsidy will be provided to cover fees for babysitters or temporary day care in cases in which an employee cannot receive childcare from his or her regular nursery school or other facility or provide care at home due to work obligations on days off or outside of regular working hours*1.
* In addition to usage fees, registration fees and renewal fees are also eligible for the subsidy.
* Using day care for sick children is eligible for the subsidy even on weekdays and Saturdays from 8:00 to 17:00.
* Employees must indicate the duties requiring temporary childcare*2 and working hours*3 on the application form and attach a document (e.g., list of lectures) outlining their duties. If there is no objective document available, employees should attach a statement of justification (no set format).
Period sligible for subsidy Until the child reaches junior high school age
Subsidy amount and / number of uses Maximum amount in a given year: ¥60,000 (including home helper fee subsidy)
Number of uses: No limit (Subsidies are treated as taxed income and paid together with the salary)
Required documents
  • Babysitter / Home Helper Subsidy Application
  • Receipt issued by the facility (original)
  • Proof that the child is in the care of the employee (e.g., copy of spouse's health insurance card, etc.) * Not required if the person is a tax dependent or mutual aid dependent of a university employee or eligible for a dependent allowance.
  • Document outlining work details and hours (e.g., list of lectures, notice of research conference convocation)
Remarks
  • If an employee asks a relative to watch his or her child, any fees paid to those relatives are not eligible for the subsidy.
  • *1: “Days off or outside of regular working hours” refers to Sundays, holidays and times other than 8:00 - 17:00 on weekdays and Saturdays.
  • *2: Please indicate duties in details. Examples include teaching classes, attending a research conference, conducting research, supervising students, scoring, conducting placement tests, and attending open campus events, an entrance ceremony, or a graduation ceremony. Non-tenured faculty and staff members and part-time faculty and staff members are eligible for the subsidy for duties indicated in their contracts and statement of employment conditions.
  • *3: If there is a justifiable reason for being unable to use your regular nursery school or other facility because you have work lasting past 17:00 on a weekday or Saturday, you will be eligible for the subsidy.

Home Helper System

Details A subsidy will be provided to cover fees for home helpers in cases in which an employee cannot receive nursing care from his or her regular nursing care facility or provide nursing care at home due to work obligations on days off or outside of regular working hours*1. ,br>* In addition to usage fees, registration fees and renewal fees are also eligible for the subsidy.
* Employees must indicate the duties requiring temporary home helper service*2 and working hours*3 on the application form and attach a document (e.g., list of lectures) outlining their duties. Eligible Family Members Spouse, biological parents, and children of a faculty and staff member
Period Eligible for Subsidies Period of nursing care for the family member requiring nursing care
