APU Cooperation Seminar

Learning the technology and advanced case studies of the environment with international students - APU joint seminar

Every year, the Department of Environmental Systems Engineering holds a seminar to learn about advanced environmental policies and green technology together with Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU).
Due to the large amount of international students participating from APU, in addition to the interchange between universities, this seminar becomes a place of international exchange.
In 2012, this seminar was held in Kitakyushu-shi for 3 days and 2 nights.
In Kitakyushu, “Eco-Town” we visited a recycling facility and a renewable energy facility. We heard lectures from Kitakyushu city officials, and did group and field work, for example a green tourism experience in Usa City.
On the last day, each group presented a summary of the program in English.
By interacting with people who have a different viewpoint and background, we can think about the environment and have experiences and learn in a way that’s impossible in normal class lectures.

Testimonials

I participated in the APU joint seminar...

  • It was a good chance to understand the different value systems of the international students while learning advanced approaches to the environment at the same time.
  • After hearing about overseas development from the officials in Kitakyushu, I became interested in “city diplomacy”.
  • I realized that the environmental awareness of the public is important for a low-carbon, recycling-based society.
