Starting with the Fall Semester of AY2026, Ritsumeikan University will introduce direct debit (automatic withdrawal) as a new payment method for tuition and fees.
Direct debit is a payment method in which tuition and miscellaneous membership fees are automatically withdrawn on the designated date from a financial institution account registered in advance.
This method reduces the need to complete bank transfer procedures and helps prevent missed payments. Ritsumeikan University will bear all account registration fees and direct debit processing fees associated with direct debit payments.
For direct debit services related to tuition and fees, as well as the development and management of related systems, Ritsumeikan University entrusts operations to F-REGI Co., Ltd. In outsourcing these services, the University concluded an agreement that includes provisions on confidentiality and personal information protection, requires appropriate management of personal information, and ensures that the information is not used for any purpose other than the entrusted operations.
The scope of direct debit and the key dates for this academic year are as follows.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Registration period | Monday, September 14 to Friday, October 30, 2026 |
| Date when scheduled withdrawal amount becomes available | Wednesday, November 11, 2026 |
| Direct debit date for tuition and fees | Friday, November 27, 2026 |
| Items to be debited | Fall semester tuition and miscellaneous membership fees |
| Number of debit attempts | Once per semester (No second withdrawal attempt will be made.) |
To use direct debit, please register a financial institution account via the Ritsumeikan University Tuition Portal.
Account registration can be completed from a smartphone or computer. Please review 3.Important Notes on Use before beginning the procedure.
Please review the following points before using direct debit. Details for individual cases are provided in the notice sent to the tuition billing address in September and in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Eligible users | As a rule, direct debit is available to regular students who have an account at a financial institution located in Japan. |
| Items to be debited |
|
| Ineligible cases | No direct debit will be made for the applicable semester for students in the following categories, even if registration has been completed.
|
| Cases in which registration should be avoided | Please refrain from registering for direct debit if any of the following apply to you:
|
| Changes and cancellation |
|
| Insufficient balance |
|
| Withdrawal amount |
|
| Payment completion |
|
| Notification and receipt |
|
Students who receive, have applied for, or plan to apply for a JASSO grant-type scholarship or Ritsumeikan University tuition reduction (including support for households with multiple children) may also use direct debit. However, depending on when the tuition reduction amount is finalized, the withdrawal amount and how the amount will be adjusted later will differ.
| Category | Handling |
|---|---|
| Students already selected | If the fall semester tuition reduction amount has been finalized as of early October, that amount will be reflected in the withdrawal amount will. If it has not yet been finalized, in principle, the same tuition reduction amount as the spring semester will be applied provisionally. However, if the amount remains unfinalized as of early December, the University will provide separate guidance regarding payment of the difference from the regular tuition amount in order to prevent removal from the register due to unpaid tuition and fees. |
| If the tuition reduction amount changes later | If the tuition reduction amount increases, the University will refund the difference at a later date. Information on the refund timing and procedures is scheduled to be provided around May to June 2027. If the tuition reduction amount decreases or the student becomes ineligible for assistance, please pay the shortfall using another payment method. |
| Students applying during the spring regular application period | If the selection result and the fall semester tuition reduction amount have not been finalized by early October, the regular tuition amount without reflecting the tuition reduction will be withdrawn. If the tuition reduction amount is finalized after selection, the University will refund the difference at a later date and make the necessary adjustment. |
| Students planning to apply during the fall secondary application period | The regular tuition amount without reflecting the tuition reduction will be withdrawn. If you wish to pay after the selection decision is made, please refrain from completing the direct debit procedure. |
Under the JASSO Grant-type Scholarship (Emergency Household Financial Support Program), the support category is reviewed every three months after approval (and annually after income verification documents covering at least 12 months have been submitted). The University reflects tuition reductions in tuition fees as soon as the support category is determined; however, there may be a time lag before the reduction is applied. In addition, the timing of support category determinations varies depending on individual circumstances. Therefore, students who have been approved for this program (including those whose applications are pending or who plan to apply) may use direct debit; however, please carefully consider the following points before deciding whether to use direct debit.
| Category | Handling |
|---|---|
| Students already selected | The tuition reduction amount corresponding to the support category and support period determined as of early October will be reflected in the withdrawal amount. If the support category for the entire fall semester remains undetermined, the regular tuition amount without any tuition reduction will be withdrawn. |
| Students with pending applications | You may use direct debit even if the selection decision has not yet been made. However, if the selection result is not finalized by early October, the regular tuition amount without reflecting any tuition reduction will be withdrawn. |
| If the tuition reduction amount changes later | If the tuition reduction amount increases, the University will refund the difference at a later date. Information on the refund schedule and procedures is expected to be provided around May–June 2027. If the tuition reduction amount decreases or the student becomes ineligible for support, please pay the shortfall using another payment method. |
| Students planning to apply | The regular tuition amount without reflecting any tuition reduction will be withdrawn. If you wish to pay after the selection decision is made, please refrain from completing the direct debit procedure. |
The Ritsumeikan University Emergency Household Financial Support Tuition Reduction Program provides a tuition reduction equivalent to one-quarter of the annual tuition for the semester in which the student is approved. Because the timing of the screening process and selection decision varies, the timing at which the tuition reduction amount is finalized also varies. Therefore, students who have applied or plan to apply for this program may use direct debit; however, please carefully consider the following points before deciding whether to use direct debit.
| Category | Handling |
|---|---|
| Students already selected | If the tuition reduction amount has been finalized as of early October, the tuition amount reflecting the reduction will be withdrawn. |
| Students with pending applications | If the tuition reduction amount has been finalized as of early October, the tuition amount reflecting the reduction will be withdrawn. If it has not yet been finalized, in principle, the regular tuition amount will be withdrawn. |
| If the tuition reduction amount changes later | If the tuition reduction amount is finalized later, the University will refund the applicable amount at a later date. Information on the refund schedule and procedures is expected to be provided around May–June 2027. |
| Students planning to apply | The regular tuition amount without reflecting any tuition reduction will be withdrawn. If you wish to pay after the selection decision is made, please refrain from completing the direct debit procedure. |
The Parents' Association Emergency Household Financial Support Scholarship is a program that fully exempts annual tuition from the time of approval through the standard period of study. Students who have applied or plan to apply for this scholarship may use direct debit; however, please carefully consider the following points before deciding whether to use direct debit.
| Category | Handling |
|---|---|
| Students already selected | If miscellaneous membership fees are payable, direct debit may be used to pay those fees. |
| Students with pending applications | For direct debit in the fall semester of AY2026, if approval has been granted by October, the tuition amount reflecting the reduction will be withdrawn. If approval has not been granted by October, the regular tuition amount without reflecting the reduction will be withdrawn. If you are awarded the scholarship after the direct debit has been processed, the University will issue a refund at a later date. Information on the refund schedule and procedures is expected to be provided around May–June 2027. If you wish to make payment after the selection decision is made, please refrain from completing the direct debit procedure. |
| Students planning to apply | For direct debit in the fall semester of AY2026, if approval has not been granted by October, the regular tuition amount without reflecting the reduction will be withdrawn. If you wish to make payment after the selection decision is made, please refrain from completing the Direct Debit procedure. |
