What is the best way to reach the campus from Kansai Airport (KIX)?
The campus is approx. 40 minutes away from JR Kyoto station by train and
bus. So, the easiest trip will be first taking a JR Line's limited express
"Haruka" train to Kyoto station (80 min). Then, you transfer
to the JR "Biwako line" to Minami-Kusatsu station (20 min), and
finally take a bus to the campus (15 min). You should buy a train ticket
from Kansai Airport to Minami-Kusatsu. To use Haruka train, you also have
to pay for the seat.
You can also take a Limousine Bus from KIX to Kyoto Station. From Kyoto
station, use JR Line to Minami-Kusatsu station as mentioned above.
When will the excursion finish on Sep. 1?
(Updated on July 18)
We are still planning, but we will be finishing the excursion by 15:00~16:00
at the latest. The breakup place may be either BKC (the venue) or JR Otsu St. area. The JR Otsu Sta. is only two stops away from Kyoto Sta. (9 min). The latter may make you bring your all baggage all the time of the excursion,
though. You can store your baggage on the bus. The return bus will take you to
Otsu station, Minami-Kusatsu station, and BKC.
Are you also arranging the accommodations? Or do we need to find hotels
individually??
For students, we have booked on-campus dormitory, which is described above
in this page (Reservation Closed on Aug. 22th).
For regular participants, we are sorry that we would expect your individual
hotel reservations. As mentioned above, the nearest train station is Minami-Kusatsu
Sta., where there are two hotels. Around the next stations, "Seta"
Sta. and "Kusatsu" Sta., there are also several hotels. There
are direct bus-lines to the University both from Seta and Kusatsu stations,
but they are not so frequent. You may take the train one stop from both
Seta and Kusatsu to Minami-Kusatsu, where you can take buses to the University
more frequently.
Kyoto Sta. area, though it is a little bit far from the venue (40 min),
is another reasonable and attractive option, because there are numerous
hotels and, of course, you can enjoy Kyoto city.
The conference dinner site is Lake Biwa Otsu Prince Hotel (Ohmi room).
Direct-access busses from the conference venue have been chartered . The
bus will depart from the venue at 18:00, and arrive at Prince Hotel at
18:45.
The return bus is supposed to leave Prince Hotel at 21:30 or so.
(updated on Aug. 20th)
Two buses will go to Otsu station. Participants staying close to Minami-Kusatsu,
Seta, Kusatsu, or Kyoto stations should get on these buses bound for JR
Otsu station and take trains for your convenient stations.
Note that special rapid service trains will not stop at Seta station, so
you have to use a local train to get off at Seta station. The fare from
Otsu to Minami-Kusastu is 200 JPY.
One bus will go to Biwako-Kusatsu Campus via Minami-Kusatsu station. Participants
staying close to Minami-Kusatsu station may also use this bus, but the
number of passengers are limited and it will take longer time than to use
a train from Otsu station.
(Updated on July 18)
According to the vote of registrants, the destination of Excursion has
been determined to Lake Biwa cruising (Michigan Cruise) with buffet. MICHIGAN SIGHTSEEING CRUISE
Direct-access busses from the conference venue have been chartered . The
