社会科学に不可欠な3要素である、研究の背景に関する知識、プログラミング、統計手法を初歩から丁寧に解説している本。実際のデータを、統計ソフトを使って分析することで、データ分析と結果の解釈、得られた知見の効果的な公表の仕方を実践的に学ぶ。特に、データサイエンスなどの分野でよく使われている無料の統計ソフトRというプログラミングの基礎、因果関係、測定、予測を取りあげる。ハーバード大学の先生が綺麗に書いている本で、統計プログラミングを全く知らない学生に非常におすすめ。

This book provides a friendly introduction to the practical statistical concepts and programming skills needed to conduct social studies. You don’t need to have prior knowledge of statistics and coding. With only minimal knowledge of math (high school level), the book teaches the fundamentals of survey research, prediction, and causal inference while analyzing real world data with the freely available statistical program R. It teaches not only how to perform the data analyses but also how to interpret the results. This book is highly recommended for students with no prior background in statistics and programming language.
