グローバルサウスと称される新興国において「社会秩序はどのように再構築されるのか」、「グローバル規範がどのように受容されるのか」という問題を、社会学的な観点から追究しています。主な研究として、南アフリカの真実和解委員会（1996～2003年）と、カンボジアのクメール・ルージュ特別法廷（2006～2022年）に関する現地調査にもとづき、ローカル・オーナーシップの社会的機能を中心に、移行期正義の理論的拡張に取り組みました（Unintended Consequences in Transitional Justice: Social Recovery at the Local Level, 2018; The Khmer Rouge Trials in Context, 2019）。その他、国家イベントを通じたソフトパワーとネイションブランディング向上の取り組み、移民を主要アクターとする都市の治安維持、プロスポーツにおける移民選手の生存戦略等についても研究してきました。現在の主な研究テーマは「新興国・途上国における農産物の知的所有権問題」です。
From a sociological perspective, my research explores how social order is (re)constructed and how global
norms are accepted in emerging countries, commonly referred to as the Global South.
Drawing on fieldwork conducted during the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa (1996–2003)
and the Khmer Rouge Tribunal in Cambodia (2006–2022), my research primarily examines the social function of
reconciliation, local ownership, and the theoretical implications of transitional justice (Unintended
Consequences in Transitional Justice: Social Recovery at the Local Level (monograph, 2018); The
Khmer Rouge Trials in Context (edited volume, 2019).
Other research projects have examined ways to enhance soft power and nation branding through national
events, ensure security in cities by engaging migrants as key stakeholders, and develop survival strategies
for migrant athletes in professional sports. My current main research interest is intellectual property
rights issues in agricultural products in emerging countries.
