日本の精神医療供給が、なぜ大規模病床数と長期在院に特徴づけられる入院中心の形態となったかについて、歴史学的な観点から、一次資料を重視した政策史研究を行っています。また、日本では非常に未成熟な医療や福祉、病気や障害に関係するアーカイブズ（ヘルスケアアーカイブズ）に関して、その理念的原則の構想、運用ガイドラインの構築などを通じて、社会にどのように開いていくことができるか、様々なプロジェクトを通じて考え、活動しています。その他、近年は優生保護法の運用実態に関する実証研究プロジェクトに携わるなどしています。
以下のようなHPを作成し、各種ヘルスケアに関わる政策の歴史的データを提供もしています。
My research focuses on the history of psychiatric hospitalization and mental health policy in Japan. It
aims to explain why, in the postwar period, the provision of mental health care in Japan became—and has
remained—so heavily reliant on hospital-based care.
In addition, I am engaged in the preservation of health care archives related to medicine, welfare, disease,
disability in Japan. I work to improve the archival infrastructure for these materials and to facilitate
easier public access.
