贈与や交換、貨幣、所有などの理論を扱う経済人類学が専門です。アフリカの零細商人の商実践やアジアとアフリカ諸国間の交易、デジタル・インフォーマル経済の変容などについて研究しています。また、シリアスゲームや映像、音声などを組み込んだマルチモーダルエスノグラフィの開発にも取り組んでいます。主著として『都市を生きぬくための狡知―タンザニアの零細商人マチンガの民族誌』（世界思想社、2011年）『「その日暮らし」の人類学—もう一つの資本主義経済』（光文社新書、2016年）『チョンキンマンションのボスは知っている―アングラ経済の人類学』（春秋社、2019年）など。
Ogawa's specialty is economic anthropology, focusing on theories of gift-giving, exchange, money, ownership, and related topics. Her research explores the commercial practices of small-scale African traders, transnational trade between Asian and African countries, and transformations in the digital informal economy. She is also engaged in developing multimodal ethnographies that incorporate serious games, visual media, and so on. Her major publications include Artfulness for Surviving the City: An Ethnography of Small-scale Trader Machinga in Tanzania (Sekaishisosha, 2011 in Japanese), The Anthropology of 'Living for Today': An Alternative Capitalist Economy (Kobunsha Shinsho, 2016 in Japanese), and The Boss of Chungking Mansions Knows: An Anthropology of the Underground Economy (Shunjusha, 2019 in Japanese), among others.
