Introduction

Hello! My name is Kazunori Nozawa. Please call me Kaz or Kazunori if you like. I'm currently a specially Appointed Professor to teach EFL (English as a Foreign Language) classes and a liberal arts course (Nonverbal Communication) at the College of Information Science and Engineering as well as to teach CALL (Computer-Assisted Language Learning) and Cross-cultural Communication at the Graduate School of Language Education and Information Science, and the CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) Facilitator, of Ritsumeikan University, Biwako-Kusatsu Campus (BKC). I was a visiting scholar (August 2001-March 2002) at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. I joined Ritsumeikan University in April 1998 after resigning the position at Toyohashi University of Technology at the end of March 1998. I officially moved to the College of Information Science and Engineering (CISE) in April 2004 and have taught EFL classes focusing on ESP (English for Specific Purposes)/EAP (English for Academic Purposes). I was the Chair of Basic Education Programs at CISE (2004-05) and was also the Head of the BKC English Programs (2005). In addition, I was the coordinator for Rits Intercultural Understanding Programs such as Illinois College (2005-06) in the U.S. and Victoria University of Wellington (2006-07) in New Zealand. I was the coordinator for CISE Overseas Programs (English and IT) at The University of Washington (2006-08) and Queensland University of Technology (2007-08 & 2011). I was on my 1-year research leave for 2010-2011 at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. I was selected as an Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) Class of 2013 and attended ADE Asia-Pacific Institute 2013 in Bali, Indonesia on March 23-28, 2013.


Since the 1998-99 academic year I mainly have taught CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) classes using CALL Labs. The Windows computers and software such as OS in the labs were replaced with new ones in March 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2012. I was the chief coordinator for the CALL program for two faculties (Economics and Business Administration) which has been an essential part of the integrated English program for 1998-2003 at Rits BKC as well as the web administrator of the BKC Language Education Center (LEC). In April 2004 I moved to the College of Information Science and Engineering to teach ESP (English for Specific Purposes)/EGAP (Egnlish for General Academic Purposes) while teaching Studies in Language Education and Information Science IV (2003- ), Intercultural Communication II (2005-2017) and e-Learning and Intercultural Communication Research Laboratory: M2 Research Seminar(2004- ) at the Graduate School of Language Education and Information Science. In 2013 I became an Apple Distinguished Educator and took part in ADE Asia Pacific Institute 2013 in Bali, Indonesia. In July 2014 I participated in ADE 20th Anniversary Global Institute 2014 in San Diego, CA, U.S.A. In August 2015 I participated ADE Asia Pacific Institute 2015 in Singapore as ADE alumni. I visited Spain and Dalian in China for the first time for conferences in September 2015. I also attended GLoCALL 2015 in Korea in November. I received a GSE (Global Scale of English) Thought Leader Certificate from Pearson. In 2016 I attended and made 6 different presentations at domestic and international conferences. I've coordinated 5 different 2016-17 intercultural understanding programs organized by the international education division of the university. In March 2017 I got retired from a tenured professor position and was rehired as a specially appointed professor in April 2017. I'm still teaching for both undergraduates and postgraduates and research. I participated in ADE Institute 2019 Asia-Pacific in Gold Coast, Australia on July 3-6, 2019. 2021-2022 is the final academic year as a specially appointed professor. From April 2022, I became a part-time lecturer.
